A white bird was found in a residential
neighborhood Monday morning with an arrow protruding from its body.
A Great Egret was hit by an arrow commonly used
for target practice in archery and was traveling from yard to yard at 695
Belvedere Dr., a Beaumont
Animal Services press release states.
The bird was taken to Beaumont West Animal Care
where the arrow was removed. X-rays will be completed to determine if surgery
is needed, the release states.
Great Egrets are protected under the Texas Parks
and Wildlife Code and the Code of Federal Regulations. The release states one
must have a federal permit to kill the bird.
