Rare bird species showing comeback

CAMBRIDGE - Several rare species of birds may be making a comeback, including the majestic trumpeter swan, says a local birding enthusiast involved in this year’s annual bird count.

Local birders spotted species thought to be rare, including wild turkeys, red-bellied woodpeckers as well as the trumpeter swan.

That’s good news, according to Levi Moore, coordinator of the Cambridge count.

“Trumpeter Swans were once critically endangered, so it is great to see their populations continue to rise.”
