Sea bird captured performing amazing new trick - but all is not what it seems

Ross Parry / SWNS Headscratcher: Which way round is this tern flying?

It's a confusing picture sure to make heads turn.

This sea bird appears to have mastered the amazing art of flying upside down.

The image was snapped by landscape photographer Roger Coan who was at first left scratching his head.

The tern has its wings clearly facing down, but it's head pointing up.

Roger eventually realised the picture is simply a trick of the eye.

He said: "I didn't realise until I got home I had taken the picture.

"I had gone out on a boat trip around an island off the Northumberland coast that was known for having a large bird population.
