As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Swans nabbed by the beak

Police officers swoop into action as two cygnets on a walkabout cause chaos in Bath city centre

theguardian.com, Thursday 13 November 2014 18.18 GMT

Police in the west of England have had to deal with their own Hot Fuzz incident after two swans went for a stroll.

Two cygnets paused during their flight to land in a cemetery in Bath, Somerset, and started wandering across paths and roads. They were chased down by PCSOs – just like in the hit 2007 film starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost – before one bird decided to take a nap in the middle of the road.

Concerned for the bird’s safety, PCSOs Ashley Bintcliffe and Mike Symonds surrounded it with cones for its own protection. The swans were then wrapped in blankets before being taken to a nearby canal and set free by the two officers.
