As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Explosions in Hutchinson are for the birds

The city says it's been using bird bombs near Avenue C and Severance every 30 minutes from noon until 4 p.m. The city wants the Egrets out of the area because they could make residents sick.

Lt. John Taylor, Hutchinson Police department, said many people have expressed concerns over the health hazard with several hundred birds in the area.

"I've seen quite a bit of waste in the area," he said.

The city stopped shooting off the bird bombs Tuesday morning because animal control found a nest with eggs. The city cannot kill the birds due to a federal law.
