As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Moorhen stoned to death

26/01/2019
Common Moorhen has died after it was stoned by a group of men in West Yorkshire. The incident took place at Newmillerdam on 20 January, with one of the stones thrown leaving the moorhen in a critical state. It later died as a result of its injuries.
The group of young men repeatedly threw stones at the bird, leading police to appeal to anyone who has any information on the incident. In a post shared on Facebook, PSCO Colin Starford commented: "Wildlife Crime Team Officers are interested in any information which may assist in identifying a group of young males at Newmillerdam on Sunday 20 January 2019, who were witnessed throwing stones at the wild birds.
"One of the stones hit a Common Moorhen which later died of its injuries. If you saw the males and can help, please contact West Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for a member of the Wildlife Crime Team from Wakefield."
