As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

NEW ‘TREE OF LIFE’ TRACES EVOLUTION OF A MYSTERIOUS COTINGA BIRDS

They are known as some of the brightest, loudest, most unusual looking, and least understood birds that glide across our skies. Some have bulbous crests, long fleshy wattles, or Elvis-worthy pompadours, along with electric blue, deep purple, or screaming orange feathers. Thanks to a comprehensive new evolutionary ‘tree of life’ created for the tropical cotinga family of South America, the door is now open to new discoveries about the 60 plus species in this incredibly varied group of birds.
