As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Name Barnsley beer to help rare bird

Beer-lovers in Barnsley are invited to name a new ale to help a threatened bird.

The town’s Acorn Brewery is working with the RSPB on the competition to help the bittern, one of the UK’s most at risk birds and a rare type of small heron.

For every pint sold, Acorn will donate five pence to the RSPB to create homes for bitterns at its nature reserves across the north.

Mike Harris from the RSPB said: “We are challenging people to come up with an unforgettable name drinkers will associate with the beer and the bittern. “

Winners will get to help brew the beer and pull the first pint.
