A man kicked a pigeon to death while pushing a pram through Stirling city centre, police have said.
The incident took place in Port Street at 14:15 on 4 April.
The man was in his late twenties, wearing a blue jacket and denim jeans, and was pushing a pram in the company of a woman.
RSPB Scotland said killing wild birds was "completely illegal". Police Scotland appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
James Leonard of RSPB Scotland said: "This was a horrendous incident that took place in a busy city centre street and must have been deeply upsetting for those who witnessed it.
"We would remind people that pigeons are fully protected by the law and offences against wild birds are taken seriously by the police and courts.
"I would urge anyone who can assist in identifying this person to come forward and speak to police are soon as possible so they can be brought to justice for this callous act."
Pc Malcolm O'May, the wildlife crime officer for the Forth Valley, added: "This was an unnecessary act of cruelty which resulted in the death of the pigeon."
