As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Hawk attacks woman in Forest Hills neighborhood

Birds terrorize residents on Filmore Drive
UPDATED 6:50 PM EDT Jun 02, 2014

FOREST HILLS, Pa. —A Forest Hills woman was attacked by a red-shouldered hawk Saturday. The bird of prey knocked her unconscious.

"I yelled 'help' and they all came over and I was bleeding," said Eileen Bridge.

The birds have buzzed by other residents on Filmore Drive, including Pat Bridge, Eileen’s husband.

“Just the ‘woosh’ from his wings, you know? Just like a rushing noise,” said Pat Bridge. “Your heart is beating, kind of scared.”

Eileen Bridge said she had seen the birds and their nest full of hatchlings and she knew the birds have threatened other people on their street.

Saturday she was outside and did not see the bird coming.

"I was washing the vehicle on the street and I put it in the driveway to detail it,” said Eileen Bridge. "It came up and it blind-sided me, it just hit me."
