As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Mean OAP Pulled Out Parrots Tail Feathers

A pensioner in Germany is facing a 900 GBP fine for animal cruelty after pulling out the tail feathers of a parrot.

The bird's owner Elvis Bolanca, 27, had told the woman that she could not have the bird after he had earlier advertised to try to find it a new home.

Elvis, who was moving flats, could not care for the parrot any more. So he had posted an advert on the internet seeking a new home for the pet.

He said: "A 70-year-old woman in the western city of Duesseldorf answered and offered to take him. I didn't want to simply hand him over there without checking and so I agreed to deliver him to her in person.

"When I got there I was shocked that the condition she was living in, there were cigarettes ends everywhere and the TV was on far too loud for a pet. She had five other birds in a tiny cage and the cat that she had also looked in a miserable condition. I couldn't do anything about them but there was no way I was leaving Nerfi with her."
