As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Bulgaria part of operating busting killing of endangered vultures for voodoo rituals

28 May 2014 | 11:59 | FOCUS News Agency

Burgas. Illegal traffic of killed world endangered species of Egyptian vulture to Nigeria and Niger, used for voodoo magic rituals, has been busted with the cooperation of the partners under LIFE+ project from Bulgaria and Greece and with major cooperation of partner organisations from Africa, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds announced for FOCUS news Agency.

The criminal scheme, involving vulture hunters and traders, was busted thanks to the bird named Pashalis killed in Niger. The bird was equipped with a satellite transmitter, which allowed the disclosure of the scheme.
