As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

€8,000 record fine for illegal bird trapping; man has hunting, trapping licence revoked for life

A bird trapper from Gozo has been found guilty of illegal finch trapping close to San Lawrence during the closed season in spring 2015. He was today sentenced to pay 8.000 Euros and has his trapping permit and hunting licence revoked for life, the Committee Against Bird Slaughter said in a statement.

The case was reported to the police by a team of the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) on 23 March 2015 after the volunteers observed and photographed the man operating an active clap net and an illegal electronic bird caller to attract finches to the trapping site. According to CABS the man is a repeat offender with at least one prior conviction related to illegal trapping of birds.
