Rare Romanian pelican spotted in Devon

A RARE pelican native to Romania has been spotted again in the UK.

The 'lesser spotted' dalmatian pelican was first seen in Cornwall back in May.

But now, the giant grey and white bird has made its way to the Devon coastline, with bird watchers reporting sightings around Plymouth.

The first sighting was on July 9 when it was spotted in Torpoint at about 9am before another record was logged an hour later at St John's Lake in Cornwall.

Over the next two days, three people reported see the pelican - the largest of the species - hanging around Whacker Quay in Antony, Cornwall.
