As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Rare Purple Swamp Hen brings flocks to RSPB Minsmere in Suffolk


Calamon Común.JPGIt normally resides in the swamps of Southern Europe and Africa but has decided the lagoons of Minsmere in Suffolk are more to its liking. A 'wild' Purple Swamp Hen has never been seen in the British Isles before but it's showing itself several times a day at the RSPB reserve.

More than a thousand birdwatchers have come from across the country to see the bird, which is about the size of a chicken and looks like a fancy coloured moorhen.
