As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

DHENKANAL: Rare birds were found dead on the banks of river Brahmani leading to apprehension of their poaching during the migratory season.

Social activists led by wildlife lover Rajendra Panigrahi informed forest department and wildlife officials about the finding of bird carcasses during the last four days.

The team also accompanied forest officials to the spot. Most of the birds were spotted on the riverbed near Rankiya village close to Budhibili village of Brahmani river. With the sweet water turtles laying eggs on the river bank in large numbers, this has led to concern among the wildlife lovers .

Divisional Forest Officer, PK Sahoo, said we are planning to intensify patrolling on the river side to check more deaths and bird census is set to start from January 4.
