As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

The post-mortem examination has shown the Sandon goose was not shot

A post-mortem examination has concluded the goose that was reportedly shot in Sandon is more likely to have died from natural causes.

News that a much-loved gander was killed in a drive-by shooting on Sunday, February 21 sparked outrage all over the country when it hit national headlines last week after the Mercury broke the story.

However, following a full forensic post-mortem examination yesterday (March 3) - which included a CT scan - it has been concluded that the feathered bird was not shot.

Veterinary pathologists at the Royal Veterinary College have still not pinpointed the precise cause of death, but have said a likely cause of death would be natural causes.
