When Maureen Lima's beloved dog died several years ago, the brokenhearted Mentor resident said no more pets.
Then her brother suggested a bird, and she decided that might work.
"I said, ‘How close can you really get to a bird?' " she recalls.
Really close, it turns out.
That's why she was heartsick when she recently lost her 1 1/2-year-old cockatiel, Hanna. The bird was acting unusually adventurous a couple of weeks ago and hopped out Lima's apartment door. Enjoying her newfound freedom, she quickly flew out of reach, then out of sight.
