As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

WITH VIDEO: Shipyard launches search to find missing hawk

12 May 2016 11:06AM

THE shipyard in Barrow is working alongside a pest control firm in a bid to find a missing bird of prey.

The Harris Hawk went missing on Monday while it was flying around the BAE Systems site in Barrow and was last seen in the area of the Central Yard off Bridge Road. Handler Gav Lancaster, who works for Rentokil, has since posted pictures of the bird on Facebook in an attempt to find the missing seagull deterrent.

In his post, Mr Lancaster, from Oldham, said in his post on Tuesday: "I do work in Barrow at BAE two times a week. I use a Harris Hawk to deter the gulls from nesting on certain buildings.

The Harris Hawk which has gone missing in Barrow."Yesterday it went AWOL and disappeared I last saw it around central yard at BAE Systems. Before people start asking questions I don't use this bird to kill the gulls, I use it to control the gull population.
