As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Help endangered birds on an off-limits island!

San Diego Audubon is restoring habitat on FAA Island in Mission Bay to promote nesting by the California Least Tern (an endangered bird). We’ll be repairing chick fencing, baling-up plant piles, and more. This is a great opportunity to get out to an island that is otherwise off-limits to the public! (The lifeguards will be ferrying us out there.)

The event is on March 16, 2013 from 9:30 am-12:30 pm. Meet at the public boat ramp at De Anza Cove in Mission Bay. Please arrive at 9:15 so you don’t miss the boat!

Volunteers should wear long pants and sturdy shoes, and sun/rain protection as weather indicates. Work gloves will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own pair if available. We’ll have water, but don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle for refills!
Questions/Directions/RSVP: Call or email our Conservation Program Manager, Rebecca Schwartz. schwartz@sandiegoaudubon.org (858) 273-7800 x 101.
