As regular CFZ-watchers will know, for some time Corinna has been doing a column for Animals & Men and a regular segment on On The Track... particularly about out-of-place birds and rare vagrants. There seem to be more and more bird stories from all over the world hitting the news these days so, to make room for them all - and to give them all equal and worthy coverage - she has set up this new blog to cover all things feathery and Fortean.

Lebanon signs MOU to protect birds of prey

n. 13, 2015 | 12:22 PM

The Daily Star

BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Environment Minister Mohammad Machnouk signed a memorandum of understanding to protect migratory birds, explaining that the move will help protect 37 species.

Machnouk’s signature formalizes Lebanon’s commitment to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, after the Cabinet approved the move last August.

“This memorandum will allow Lebanon to work through the new legal framework that it states, in order to protect migrant birds along the African-Asian migration path,” Machnouk said at the signing ceremony.

“[It] will prompt Lebanon to commit to a clear action plan for the protection of the 37 main types of birds of prey that migrate on the Rift Valley-Red Sea path.”
