Prison officer spared jail for trading 2,000 rare bird eggs

A prison officer who traded illegally in more than 2,000 rare birds’ eggs avoided a prison sentence yesterday.

But 53-year-old Keith Liddell could face losing his job, as the Scottish Prison Service will now hold a disciplinary inquiry.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood ordered Liddell to carry out 220 hours of community service as an alternative to prison.
